Jefferson Township High School Board Approves Levy to Maintain Roads

The Jefferson Township High School board has decided to put a levy on the ballot in order to address the increasing costs of maintaining roadways and keeping equipment up-to-date. According to fiscal officer Adrianne Edwards, the decision was made because 'we thought in order to maintain the status quo, as far as the quality of our roads, that we would ask for it.' The proposed levy will cost property owners approximately $70 annually for every $100,000 of the Richland County auditor's appraised value.

The funds generated from the levy will be used specifically for the general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and repair of streets, roads, and bridges within the township. However, the ballot language notes that this does not include roads within the Village of Bellville. The board recognizes that they are not immune to escalating equipment and material costs, and believes that the levy is necessary in order to maintain the quality of their roads.

If approved by voters, the levy will help ensure that Jefferson Township can continue to provide safe and well-maintained roadways for residents and visitors alike.
